Scott Steiners Second WWE Run Called Snakebit

May 2024 · 2 minute read

Scott Steiner had a solid run as a tag team specialist alongside his brother Rick Steiner during the nineties. The duo were brought to WCW in 1992 by Eric Bischoff, where Scott turned solo. Scott brought his “Big Poppa Pump” gimmick to WWE after his return to the promotion at Survivor Series 2002.

Scott’s second WWE run, however, didn’t live up to the hype even though he was pushed into a world title program with Triple H in 2003. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross believes Scott Steiner’s final WWE run suffered because of his health issues. The AEW commentator called the run “snakebit” during recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast.

“Yeah, he wasn’t, Scotty wasn’t healthy to the level that he could go out and be the athlete that he was coming out of Michigan. His body was taking a toll and a lot of those big muscle guys have that issue and I just think Scotty wasn’t healthy … His injuries and culmination of injuries simply did not allow him to have his normal, back-in-the-day, athletic match. Plus, he was getting older.”

Steiner parted ways with WWE after an underwhelming two-year run. He would spend the following years in IMPACT Wrestling (formerly known as TNA), as well as the independent circuit.

WWE announced the Steiner Brothers as inductees for their Hall of Fame Class of 2022. The legendary tag team was inducted into the HOF by Scott’s nephew and current NXT Champion Bron Breakker.

In January 2023, WWE signed the Steiner Brothers to Legends Contract. For those wondering, the deal allows signatories some leeway in other venues. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more.
